Identifying Nutrient Export Hotspots Using a Spatially Distributed Model in Boreal-Forested Catchments

چکیده
The implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) aimed to reduce nutrient export from catchments water courses. Forest operations cause diffuse loading, which challenges efficient targeting protection measures. We formed 100 equally probable clear-cut scenarios, investigate how location clear-cuts influenced total nitrogen (TN) and phosphorous (TP) on different scales. was calculated by using a distributed model (NutSpaFHy). clear-cut-induced excess TN TP exports varied 4.2%–5.5% 5.0%–6.5%, respectively, between scenarios. analyzed sub-catchment characteristics regulated background export. results also suggested that there no single feature, explained variation in exports. There were clear differences sub-catchments. found only 5% forest area could contribute up half Based our results, we presented conceptual planning framework, applied finding areas where high. Application this information improve overall effectiveness measures used forestry.

Drivers of atmospheric nitrate processing and export in forested catchments
Increased deposition of reactive atmospheric N has resulted in the nitrogen saturation of many forested catchments worldwide. Isotope-based studies from multiple forest sites report low proportions (mean5 10%) of unprocessed atmospheric nitrate in streams during baseflow, regardless of N deposition or nitrate export rates. Given similar proportions of atmospheric nitrate in baseflow across a va...

متن کاملPhosphorus export from catchments: a global view
We reviewed global P export and its controlling factors from 685 world rivers. We used available continuous (runoff, rainfall, catchment area, % land use, and population density) and discrete (runoff type, soil type, biome, dominant land use, dominant type of forest, occurrence of stagnant water bodies in catchment, and Gross Product per Capita [GPC]) variables to predict export of P fractions....
متن کاملIdentifying recombination hotspots using population genetic data
Motivation: Recombination rates vary considerably at the fine scale within mammalian genomes, with the majority of recombination occurring within hotspots of ~2 kb in width. We present a method for inferring the location of recombination hotspots from patterns of linkage disequilibrium within samples of population genetic data. Results: Using simulations, we show that our method has hotspot det...
متن کاملIdentifying at Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Hotspots in Canada
This research presents a risk-based Hotspots identification model at highway-rail grade crossings in Canada. Two sets of models were developed to predict collision frequency and consequence at individual crossings. A two–dimensional graphic approach was adopted to combine these two models together to predict the risk at each crossing. Hotspots based on collision history tended to be widespread ...
